Snowshoeing is a perfect way to experience winter and get to places that are deserted and absolutely quiet. It is best to join a group that is accompanied by a mountain guide.

The Berghotel Sexten offers guided tours several times a week,(with the guides of the mountain school Drei Zinnen) so the avalanche risk can be minimized and you are in the best hands to really enjoy the winter. But there are also destinations that you can easily do alone, because snowshoeing is not difficult.

Snowshoeing in the Sesto Dolomites Drei Zinnen offers many opportunities to enjoy winter away from the hustle and bustle - wonderful panoramas, crystal clear air, perfect peace and a wonderful light. Snowshoeing in fresh snow, being the first to trace your own trail is something very special and afterwards you stop in a cozy hut - what could be nicer?

The following snowshoe hikes are suggestions from us and a small selection from the outstanding variety of possibilities that our valley and the Three Peaks Dolomites offer. Most hikes can be started from the Berghotel, otherwise you can also take part of the route by bus (timetable available at reception).

The right equipment

We suggest wearing waterproof clothings and shoes, sticks, eventually leggings, a light backpack and a good map (you receive at the Berghotel or download at www.berghotel.com). In places with avalanche danger bring an avalanche warning system (obtainable in all sport shops) and inform the reception.

Because there are many tours in the Dolomites of Sexten - Drei Zinnen that start directly from the Berghotel Sexten and no long transfers are necessary. The trip to the Three Peaks also takes only 2.5 km by bus or car to the starting point.
Because you can do many snowshoe hikes with the help of the mountain funiculars and save so many meters in altitude and reach places that would otherwise be too far - e.g. the Mount Elmo summit.
